Flue Gas Treatment

Both our quicklime and hydrated lime products are commonly used for the treatment of industrial flue emissions. Some of the potential uses include:

Sulfur Removal
A common pollutant found in flue gas is sulfur dioxide (SO2), which can cause acid rain and other environmental problems. Both quicklime and hydrated lime can be used to remove SO2 from flue gas by a process called flue gas desulfurization (FGD). This leads to a reaction to form calcium sulfate (CaSO4), which can be removed from the gas stream by a variety of methods, such as wet scrubbing, spray drying, or bag filters.

Acid Gas Removal
Quicklime and hydrated lime can also be used to treat other acidic gasses such as sulfur trioxide (SO3) and hydrochloric acid (HCl). Using methods such as dry sorbent injection (DSI), quicklime or hydrated lime can be injected directly into the flue gas stream to react with the acidic gases, forming solid particulates that can be easily removed. 

Mercury Removal
Mercury is a toxic heavy metal that is released into the atmosphere from a variety of industrial processes, including coal-fired power plants, waste incineration, and cement manufacturing. Sorbent injection systems are commonly used to capture mercury using quicklime or hydrated lime. Compared to other mercury control technologies, it is cost-effective, requires minimal capital investment, and can be easily integrated into existing flue gas cleaning systems.
